Located Near Hopkins, SC, Congaree Swamp National Monument marks an area of national significance due to its biodiversity, old-growth forest and hihg-canopy trees (one of the highest in the world). The Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden is home to more then 2,000 animals and is an environment free of bars and cages. Instead the zoo uses psychological barriers such as moats, water and light to contain the animals. Also housed in the park is a 70-acre botanical garden containing three distinct topographic landmasses, making it perfect for an educational retreat.
